Global Mentorship Initiative (GMI) will begin offering its career readiness mentorship program in Spanish, thanks to generous support from the Baker Hughes Foundation. GMI was recently awarded $100,000 in grant funding by the Foundation to support the launch and implementation of the new program.
“The addition of a Spanish-language program marks a significant milestone for GMI. We have long recognized the need to support students across Latin America in their primary language. In fact, our youth partners have been requesting Spanish mentorships for some time,” states GMI CEO Jon Browning. “This is why we are so grateful for the generosity of The Baker Hughes Foundation. The grant will allow us to establish the Spanish-language program and reach thousands of students across Latin America and displaced learners emigrating to the US and Canada.”
The GMI mentorship program is currently available in English and French. It follows a structured and easy-to-follow curriculum that can be adapted for each unique combination of student and mentor. All mentorships cover the same content to ensure measurable impact for students and supportive guidance for mentors. This program allows mentorship pairs to build affinity organically, fostering true human connection that transcends difference.
“GMI has a committed community of hundreds of repeat mentors, many of whom are Baker Hughes employees themselves. They are eager to engage with Latinx youth to help them get their first job,” shares Jon. “The growth of our partnership with Baker Hughes highlights what is possible when employees come together to give back to their communities. The collective support of Baker Hughes mentors and the Baker Hughes Foundation brings us closer to achieving this long-awaited goal. Together, we are making life-changing impact for the next generation of leaders.”
The GMI Spanish-language program will be available in September 2025. At that time, students will be able to submit a mentorship application in Spanish and be matched in a Spanish-speaking mentor. The full suite of GMI mentorship materials will also be available in Spanish.
