A GEM student at SNHU represents determination and resilience, being refugees seeking education amidst challenging circumstances. Through SNHU's Global Education Movement, they access tailored online education from various locations, including Rwanda, Kenya, Malawi, South Africa, and Lebanon.
This competency-based system allows them to progress at their pace, mastering specific tasks and projects. With support from partner NGOs and academic coaches, these students earn internationally recognized degrees, equipping them with skills for the global market. GEM's mission is to empower these students to transform their lives through education, leading to personal growth and economic development.

They offer scholarships, mentorship programs, workshops, and networking events, all tailored to foster skill development, confidence, and industry connections. Furthermore, by collaborating with educational institutions, tech companies, and other organizations, the Blacks in Technology Foundation ensures that Black students receive the necessary support, guidance, and opportunities to thrive in a technological world, challenging the status quo and reshaping the industry.
Last Mile Education Fund
Last Mile Education focuses on supporting dedicated students on the cusp of completing their journey in technology education. These students are characterized by their commitment to a STEM-related degree or certification within the U.S. and are facing financial challenges that threaten their academic progress.
Whether due to a low-income status, ineligibility for U.S. Federal student aid, or other evident financial needs, these individuals are in a precarious position as they approach the finish line of their academic endeavors. Last Mile emphasizes its commitment to those currently located in the U.S. and explicitly encourages members and alumnae of computing talent pipeline programs such as NCWIT Aspirations in Computing, Girls Who Code, Black Girls Code, Boys & Girls Clubs, Girl Scouts, SWENext, and similar organizations to apply for their support.
